Derby Dash
An announcer. A betting window. Eight to twelve hand-crafted horses at the gate. A giant spinning wheel that determines who moves forward. And a room full of guests cheering, groaning, and placing bets on their favorite horse - for ten to twelve minutes of pure live event excitement.
Derby Dash is Metro Casino Events' live, physical horse racing experience - available as an add-on to any casino night package throughout Virginia, Maryland, and Washington DC.
Derby Dash is not a screen or a simulation. It is a fully physical, live horse racing game built around eight to twelve beautifully crafted two-foot-tall horse-and-jockey figures, each with a distinct colored jockey, mounted on stands along a long vibrant grass racing mat framed with decorative white track fencing. Every element of the setup - from the handcrafted wooden betting window with its copper pipe bars to the giant numbered spinning wheel - is designed to look and feel like a real race day at the track.
Each race runs approximately ten to twelve minutes from first bet to winner announcement. Multiple races can be run throughout the evening, with custom horse names and fresh odds posted on the chalkboard odds board before each event. No prior knowledge of horse racing is required - guests understand the game within seconds of watching their first spin.
Before each race, the custom horse names and odds are posted on the chalkboard odds board. Guests gather around the betting window to study the field and place their bets using fun money chips.
Once all bets are placed the announcer excitedly declares: 'Ladies and Gentlemen... Place your final wagers... The horses are at the gate!' The room goes quiet.
A guest - or the Derby Dash Director - spins the giant numbered wheel. Whichever number comes up determines which horse advances that many spaces down the track. The Director dramatically slides the corresponding horse forward. Guests cheer, groan, and shout at every spin.
Horses surge ahead and fall behind with every spin, creating constant tension and momentum shifts. The energy in the room builds as the leaders approach the finish line.
The first horse to cross the finish line is declared the winner. The announcer calls the result, winning bets are paid out, and guests immediately start debating their picks for the next race.
One of Derby Dash's most popular features is custom horse naming. Before the event, clients work with Metro Casino Events to name each horse specifically for their occasion. The names are posted on the chalkboard odds board with race odds before each race begins.
Corporate events often name horses after company executives, team leaders, or departments - creating hilarious moments when the CEO's horse falls three lengths behind by the second spin. Fundraising galas name horses after major sponsors and donors, giving each sponsor a visible presence in every race and a genuine stake in the outcome. Private parties name horses after the guest of honor, inside jokes, or themed names that match the evening's personality.
This personalization transforms Derby Dash from a game guests watch into an experience guests feel connected to from the first announcement. Every guest immediately has a horse to root for - and a reason to be at the rail for every race.
Every Derby Dash add-on includes the complete physical setup: eight to twelve hand-crafted horse-and-jockey figures with distinct colored jockeys, the grass racing mat with decorative white track fencing, the handcrafted wooden betting window with copper pipe detailing and 'Betting Window' signage, the giant numbered spinning wheel, the chalkboard odds board, and a professional Derby Dash Director who manages the horses, coordinates race timing, and works alongside the announcer to build energy and suspense throughout each race.
Custom horse names for each race are included. Metro Casino Events coordinates naming with you during the planning process - just provide your preferred names and we handle the rest.
